Newsletter time comes around so quickly, it seems. Each time, I scramble for news and interesting stuff to share with y'all. The kids have been back in school for a month, and I again have my weekdays to structure as I wish regarding various publishing endeavors. That said, I still haven't gotten back to writing. I can feel the muse tugging me, but I've yet to find the time to play with her. That's going to change in the very near future, as I'm taking the reigns of my writing career. Looking at my sales numbers and, more importantly, my sales locations, I have determined that I can do better for my bottom line by self-publishing through Smashwords. To that end, I'm launching Purple Prosaic, LLC. I will use it as a publishing platform. As my current contracts reach their terms, I will reacquire the rights and re-release the work under my shiny, new, purple umbrella. I've purchased the domain, set up a blog, created a Twitter account, a Facebook profile, and will be tackling the website design this week. I love Phaze Books, and I have absolutely no regrets about publishing there -- but it's time for me to take the next step on my journey. Since I am not interested in acquiring an agent or chasing a New York contract, self-publishing makes the most sense to me. My success (or failure) will be entirely my doing, and I'm totally up for that challenge. It's both scary & exhilarating. Bring it on! Someday -- maybe -- I'll branch out, but for the time being, I only plan to publish my work & my collaborations with Will Belegon. (We have a new urban fantasy series in the plotting phase that will debut on Purple Prosaic!) So, WISH ME LUCK! More newsletter-ish type stuff below. Read on. Until next time... peace & passion, ~ Alessia ~ * ~ New Releases & Coming Soon [TOP]

Interviews & Appearances
[TOP] Will & I attended our first Dragon*Con
over Labor Day weekend. It was my first time in Atlanta (other than
layovers in the airport). I didn't see much of the city beyond the cluster
of convention hotels, but I liked what I saw. We stayed north of the city
in the suburb of Buckhead and caught the MARTA to/fro. Very easy to
navigate. However, because the rail stops running at 1 o'clock in the
morning, we missed all the late night partying. Next year, we plan to stay
downtown so we can take full advantage of the festivities! There are a few
photos on my
Facebook profile. Dragon*Con, like
Romantic Times, is just something that
has to be experienced. Next on the agenda is the
WV Book Festival in Charleston, WV on
October 10-11, 2009. It's my first involvement with this event, and
Coming Together has a booth in the
Marketplace. I'll be there with Will Belegon & Leigh Ellwood. After that, it's off to San Diego in early November for
the
La Jolla Writers Conference. It will be
our 4th consecutive year in attendance. I always come away from this
conference full of ideas & renewed energy for writing/publishing, and
we've made some wonderful new friends each year.
In the interest of brevity, I'll again settle for posting the links to my
various blogs & social networks. Please
visit them and have a look around. Subscribe. Follow. Whatever.

On the poetry blog,
a
new poem! Finally! :-) And, of course,
news of my upcoming poetry collection, Implexity (see above).
Coming Together: Against the Odds
All behavior is communication. The trick
is to figure out just what it's saying. No behavior communicates as
clearly or on as many levels as sex. All the physical and emotional senses
are engaged. Add the element of intrigue, and the intellect is engaged as
well. All proceeds from the sale of this special anthology will benefit Autism Speaks. |
